Daughter of disgraced N.J. mayor sentenced for insurance fraud

A former Brick Township, N.J., employee was sentenced to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $940,000 from the township’s health insurance program, the state Attorney General’s Office announced.

Kim E. Bogan, 52, of Brick pleaded guilty to second-degree theft by deception on Oct. 24, and  must repay $941,354.77 in restitution to Brick, according to Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino and Acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Christopher Iu.

newsBetween January 2011 and April 2017, Bogan submitted false claims to her employee health insurance program to help her now-deceased brother’s out-of-state chiropractic office.

Bogan’s brother, Glenn Scarpelli, committed suicide in late July along with his wife, citing financial difficulties. She is also the daughter of disgraced former Brick Mayor Joseph C. Scarpelli, who went to prison a decade ago for accepting bribes from a developer.
