Trump says health insurance executive order will offer “great, great” coverage

The President has promised Americans that their options will improve once he reduces policy restrictions.

President Donald Trump says that once his health insurance executive order is signed, Americans will see more plan options. The order is designed to reduce restrictions for policy buying across state lines.

The executive order will be signed likely this week, said Trump when speaking from the Oval Office.

The specific details of the health insurance executive order have not yet been released. Trump said it was “very simple in one way, but intricate in another.” That said, the move is being made after several attempts from the Republicans to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Trump had previously discussed unilateral measures to simplify the process for small businesses that want to purchase their coverage by allowing them to make a joint purchase.

“I will be signing something probably this week which is going to go a long way to take care of people that have been so badly hurt on health care,” said Trump prior to meeting with former secretary of state Henry Kissinger. “They will be able to buy across state lines. They will get great competitive health care and it will cost the United States nothing.”

As other GOP efforts to repeal the ACA stalled, the health insurance executive order was a last resort.

That said, he continued to vow that he would make alterations to the health care law, which he labeled to be a failure. Signing an executive order to change Obamacare was among the only options he had left.

This strategy has the support of certain legislators such as Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), who underscored a number of individual reforms only the president has the power to push forward. Trump said individuals would be able to purchase health plans from “many, many competitors,” suggesting that this competition would cause premiums to fall.

The rest of the health insurance executive order details will likely be released upon its signing by the president this week.
